Furry companions live in the moment. Pets serve as ice breakers and facilitate social situations among us. Mentally, emotionally, and physically this is a good relationship to have especially when a person is alone.

The articles on this site, dpfa.org highlight the health benefits. Pets give us unconditional love, comfort us in our woes, listen when no one else will, and teach us how to let things go. There are four elements to the human and furry companion relationship–intimacy, safety, kinship, and constancy. If you want a pet of your own, you can go to http://www.ebayclassifieds.com/ and check out their Pet page, where you can find the information you need and even interact with fellow pet lovers.

Intimacy with a furry companion is immediate and at the owner’s discretion. Studies show pet relationships lower blood pressure, and anxiety especially in the elderly. Often Alzheimer patients are more manageable when a pet is around for soothing.

Safety can be the fabulous story of a furry friend warning a person about a stranger, or other dangers. Safety also involves the fact furry friends make humans feel more secure. Walking a dark street at night is a joy if a dog is tagging along, but can be a frightening experience when alone and every shadow seems a threat.

Kinship is simply the fact furry friends form such deep bonds with humans that they become family. They provide a love pattern in our lives that humans take for granted until one day the furry friend is not there. Humans discover they often grieve as deeply for the loss of a pet as they do for a loved one.

Constancy is the concept that furry friends do not change over the years as much as humans do. The bond is stable and easy.

Loving furry friends is cheaper and healthier than taking medication.

Cat owners love to feed their cat dry cat food because it is easy to store and cost effective. The problem is that dry cat food that is being fed to your cat could be causing them more harm than good. When compared to moist cat food, the dry variety has numerous characteristics that could be potentially harmful to your beloved feline.

Here’s a look at some of the negatives that can come from feeding your cat too much dry food.

The Wrong Type of Protein

Cats need to have a diet that is high in animal protein. The problem with dry food is that is very high in plant based protein and not high enough in animal protein. This means your cat is not getting the proper nutrition or on the right type of diet for them.

Too Rich in Carbs

Like humans, cats need to worry about how many carbs they are eating. Feed a cat too many carbs and it can lead to heart and weight problems. One of the negatives about dry cat food is that it is mostly composed of carbs, which can lead to potential problems with your cat.

Not Enough Water

Cats need to stay hydrated and although they are often pictured drinking water they really don’t get enough water in their diet. Moist food can help compensate for the water they are not drinking. If you feed your cat mostly dry food it can lead to dehydration.

Dry cat food isn’t all bad for your cat, you just need to balance it out with moist, fresh cat food to ensure your cat is receiving the right amount of water and nutrients to keep it healthy.

The quest for a new home is daunting: properties must be inspected; costs must be mastered; and your loved ones must fumble for stability amidst the chaos of packing.

Such chaos can often breed mistakes – such as ignoring your pets.

Your family isn’t shaped to two-legged precision. It’s instead defined to wagging tails, and moving requires specific steps to ensure the security (and happiness) of your pets:

Understand Laws

No city is created equal, shaped to the same laws and demands. Each is instead unique, and individuals facing relocation must understand what’s expected of them. Veterinary rules (regarding shots, immunizations and identifications) must be followed by all pet owners. These should be learned before a move occurs and can be discovered by contacting local clerks.

Note Transportation

There are, you understand, some choices that are simple: such as using HOA management to maintain your home. Others, however, seem to defy logic. The ability to transport your pet from one area to another is defined by multiple options and all must be examined. Cars, airplanes, professional carrier services and more are available to owners. Each boasts its own advantages and concerns; and individuals must be aware of the distances they must travel, the costs they can afford and the comfort of their animals before making a decision.

Choose A Carrier

A move will define your world to cardboard: with boxes stacked in uneven towers throughout your home, shoved into your car. Those same boxes do not offer the appropriate protection for your pet, however. A carrier is instead vital.

Remember these suggestions to make a move easy and safe.

It’s highly unlikely that you will find the dog breed of your dreams at a local pet shop since most dog breeders don’t sell to them. Meanwhile, shelters and rescue facilities are typically home to mix breeds and very little purebreds. So if you want one breed and one breed only, you will have to buy right from a dog breeder of that kind. The good news is that you don’t have to travel far to buy from a renowned breeder who will overcharge you, instead there are probably numerous local breeders in your area.

Dog breeding is a very niche business so you won’t find many commercials or billboards advertising their services. The classifieds section of your local newspaper may list dog breeders, but due to the cost and space, the information in the ad is sure to be limited. A great alternative is to search online, but it’s more efficient to use services that cater to specific areas rather than search engines that will produce unmanageable results. Concentrate on your geographic location, like canada 411 if you live in Canada.

You can also find local dog breeders through word of mouth. Meet with your local veterinarian to find out with they have any recommendations, as well as advice on how to decide if a breeder is legitimate. And don’t be afraid to ask dog owners in your neighborhood where they found their pets. Along with searching for a dog breeder, search for any organizations or dog events our area that could point you in the right direction.

Puppies are all fun and joy when they first arrive in your home. They’re playful and very curious. If you are seriously considering getting a puppy, make sure you understand what you’re getting into first. Puppies require lots of attention and time to train them.

Image via Wikipedia

If you expect your puppy to come with an automatic be-good-button, you might want to consider a goldfish. If you aren’t sure, try researching online. So here are a few basic tips about preparation for you puppy.

Rearranging your home is the first stage. Puppies will get into anything and everything that they can reach. You don’t want anything that is plush or cloth near the floor. Your darling new puppy will chew anything within reach. Also move any power cords up off of the floor – they are very dangerous for puppy.

If you have any anti-pest products, make sure you put them all away and clean up any residue. Like all dogs, your puppy has a super sniffer! On top of being able to find anything that smells, they tend to eat whatever it is too. They’ll probably find things that you never knew were there, so check around under all of your furniture before your puppy arrives.

Another option is to make puppy safe zone. If you don’t want to move all of your furniture around, just make one area into a puppy safe zone. Close it off with a baby fence, but make sure to spend enoug time with your puppy.

There are a lot of scares in the world today. A lot of them happen outside the home and seem less concerning than the ones that involve you personally. But when the scare enters your home it becomes personal and much more frightening. Take a pet food recall, for instance; you’ve been feeding your pet a particular brand of food that seems to satisfy their finicky tastes. Suddenly, the news comes to your attention that that brand has issued a recall for some reason.

First, remain calm. If your pet hasn’t been vomiting or showing other indications of an upset stomach, you’re probably in a safe beginning zone. Second, get out to the store immediately and purchase another brand of food. As much as people love their pets, it’s an all too common issue to forget to make necessary changes where animals are concerned. By buying another brand right away, you’ll nip the problem in the bud. Don’t be surprised if class action attorneys in Los Angeles get on the case.

Third, remove the recalled food from the house immediately. It’s best to remove it on the way to the store to buy another brand, so you handle the switch completely. By taking the offending brand out of your home, you’ll avoid the possibility of forgetting that there was a recall. And while you might not forget, remember that others could feed your pet. Sometimes guests will find pet food and feed your apparently hungry pet without your knowledge – and they won’t be aware of the recall!

Having a pet is a great way to make your apartment feel like a home. When you bring home your new pet, it’s like a cute little addition to the family. Here are five great pets for an apartment.

Guinea Pigs

The cutest of all rodents, the guinea pig is a plump, furry little ball of sweetness. When checking out apartments for rent, make sure they allow caged animals at least, just for the sake of having a guinea pig. Listen to their wheeking and fall in love—yes, at first wheek.

Fish

The most sedate pets of all, fish are great for just gazing at. The best part is when you feed them and they all scramble for the surface. Well, maybe fish can’t scramble, but they certainly hustle it on up there to get their share of the tasty morsels.

Frogs

A frog is a simple creature. He sits on a lilly pad ribbiting, hoping to attract a mate with his song. Then he eats some flies. It’s not a complicated life, but it suits him just fine.

Turtles

Turtles and their land loving cousins the tortoises like to travel, albeit slowly. Some say that the turtle has a mating ground that they are all trying to reach, which is why they will so doggedly keep struggling against the confines of their enclosures.

Snakes

Snakes are great creatures if you have a rodent problem. They also have the uncanny ability to hang out, and then suddenly drop in. All puns aside, snakes are great creatures to have around and easy pets to take care of—they stay in their cages for the most part.

Unfortunately, many people do not understand the importance of crate training for their puppy or dog. On the other hand, they consider as the cruelty against their pests and hence don’t even think about that.

The principle of a crate training is to establish a routine which will make your dog behave normally even in your absence, as it is imperative to make some provision for your dog, when you are out. The crate training is also the safest way to carry your dog in a car or even at any other place where you feel that it would not be appropriate to take it. The only way puppy acquires this intelligence is through the means of crate training. It is believed that a dog can never make his den dirty, if it is being trained properly and in well organized manner.

The crate must be very safe place where your dog can feel pleasure and warmth. An attractive den is considered as the comfy blanket. However, confining your dog will temporarily to a small area will make it feel stressed out and uncomfortable, but this is the part of crate training and your dog will get used to it after a certain period of time. Always try to feed your dog very close to its crate, so that he can keep in touch with the crate every time. After that dog has finished eating his meals, just push the plate out of the crate, make sure that he does not show any sign of anxiety.

There are many different types of pets, but there are basic pet care considerations for pets of all types.

The first thing to consider is vet visits. Many animals need routine visits to check on their health and to receive vaccinations. Some pets, such as rabbits, dogs, and cats may need surgical procedures such as sterilization. The cost of these visits is something that should be considered before you get a pet.

Feeding is another basic care procedure. Animals need a source of quality food and water. You’ll want to make sure you have food and water bowls available for the pet. You’ll also want to make sure you are feeding your pet a healthy diet based on their overall needs. Feeding a low quality diet can lower your pets life expectancy. Your vet can assist you in this area if you do not know what kinds of foods you should be feeding your pet.

Grooming is something else to consider. Many pets need to be bathed and brushed. Some pets need the nails clipped. Dogs need to have their anal glands drained so that they will not rupture and cause further health problems. Many pets need their teeth to be brushed. Consider all of this before you get a pet so that you will not be burdened or overwhelmed with the responsibility. If this does not sound like something you want to be bothered with- then reconsider becoming a pet owner.

Pets need love and attention. This is the most basic part of caring for a pet. You need to spend time with them and make them feel loved. Don’t be mean or cold to your pets- they did not ask to be placed in your household and that’s not fair to them.

There are many reasons to get a pet, but pet ownership is not for everyone. You can be a loving, kind, and attentive person; but that doesn’t mean you are cut out to own a pet.

If you travel a lot you may not be a good candidate for pet ownership. Pets require attention, feedings, and other care procedures. If you travel a lot, you won’t be able to tend to the pet. True, you could hire someone to care for it while you are gone, but that can get expensive and if you travel frequently you may not feel comfortable with having someone in your house so frequently.

If you frequently lose interest in things you may not be a good pet owner. Pets are not accessories that you can just stuff in the closet when you get bored. So if your attention span is short when it comes to new projects, you should really think long and hard about getting a pet. Take some time to think about it then in a few months if you are still interested then you can proceed.

If you do not have a lot of disposable income then perhaps pet ownership is not for you. Pets can become expensive- especially if they get sick. You don’t want to fall in love with a pet, have it get sick, and then not be able to do anything about it. Also, pets need things on the regular. Toys, food, vet checkups, grooming supplies- are all basic things that pets need. If money is tight, you might not want to get a pet- unless it’s a fish. But even fish need food, a tank, and tank cleaning supplies- and all of these things cost money.

It’s hard to separate people from their pets, but why do people decide to be pet owners in the first place?

Actually, there are many reasons to get a pet. Perhaps you are lonely and want companionship. Pets make wonderful companions for people who don’t live close to family or friends; or for people who prefer the company of beings who will love you unconditionally. Some pets make better companions than others. For example, if you are lonely you may find the company of a dog or cat to be more exciting than the company of a fish.

Another reason to get is pet is because you want to teach your kids responsibility. Kids can learn a lot from having to take care of a pet. They learn not to be selfish and how to care for someone other than themselves. Even small children can help with basic tasks such as filling a pets food or water bowl.

Protection is another reason to get a pet- in particular a dog. Some breeds are better watch dogs than others so it is important to research breeds before you go and buy a dog. Also keep in mind that dogs need to be trained. You can’t expect to get a dog and sit back and relax. If you have certain tasks you want it to complete, you need to be prepared to train it to do so.

If you love animals, this can be another reason to get a pet. Some people get great joy from waking up and seeing their favorite animals faces. If you are not lucky enough to work in an environment with animals, having a pet of your own can be the next best thing.

Small dogs can have a variety of health problems. The first problem they have is with their teeth. Larger dogs can use hard food, bones, and other items to clean their teeth; but with small dogs it’s harder. In addition to providing chew toys it is important to brush your small dogs teeth. Many small dogs end up losing their teeth because the owners just can’t keep them clean.

Your small dog may eventually need a professional teeth cleaning. This may seem silly, because it is expensive, but if you want your dog to stay healthy, you have to make sure their teeth are healthy.

Having bad teeth can cause a variety of health problems because the germs from the mouth can travel into other areas of the body. Once this happens, the germs manifest themselves as other diseases.

Lack of exercise is another health problem that plagues small dogs. Since small dogs are so cute and cuddly, owners have the tendency to carry them all the time and overfeed them. This means the dog is not getting any exercise but they are eating up a storm. It’s okay to carry your small dog- after all, maybe that’s why you got a small dog in the first place. But you still need to make sure they get exercise.

Take your small dogs for walks, let them run around and get some fresh air. If you live in a cold environment see if your local area has a dog gym or play place. This can be a great way to get out and have some fun with your precious pooch.

Just like with humans, being overweight can cause health problems for dogs. Especially small dogs that just don’t have the resources to support normal functioning on top of an overweight body.

If your pet is suffering with health problems, it can be hard to cope with. You may feel sad, helpless, and distraught; after all, many people consider their pets to be their best friends.

The first thing to do is to realize that you have done the best you can to keep your pet healthy. You love your pet, and you did not want them to get sick. This is not your fault so don’t place blame. Don’t spend time feeling guilt; it is not going to help the situation.

The next thing you should do is to make sure you are seeing the most qualified veterinarian. Just because a vet is close to your house, it doesn’t mean that it’s the best vet for your pet. Ask around to your friends, neighbors, and family members to see if they have any vet recommendations. You can also read reviews online. Searching online may be an even better idea if your pet has a specialized health problem- that way you can get testimonials from people who have been there and done that.

Remember to stay positive when interacting with your pet. Emotions play a big role in health and healing. Try to avoid saying negative things or being sad when bathing, walking, or feeding your pet. Instead, try to enjoy the moment and realize that your moods do make a difference.

If you have children, this last point is especially important. Children will follow your lead- so if you are sad and worried about the situation- they will be too. This can be traumatic for a young child. Likewise, if you are positive and upbeat- they will feel more comfortable with the situation. You do not have to lie or be dishonest- it’s always good to tell them the truth so they won’t be shocked- but you want to be balanced in your approach so that you won’t leave your child scarred for a long time.

Perhaps you are at the time of your life when you are considering getting a pet. Maybe your kids are bugging you about it, or perhaps you seek companionship; whatever the reason is, there are some things to consider because it’s not a good idea to just rush into buying a pet.

The first thing to consider is what kind of pet you will get. Dogs and cats are the most common pets- each with their own pros and cons. For example dogs need to be walked each day rain or shine and it may be difficult to potty train them. You also have to consider the breed of the dog to see if it matches your temperament, living space, and any legal codes where you live. But one big benefit is that dogs are loyal and will be your best friend if you treat them well. They are also very fun to play with.

Cats are more independent than dogs and that can be a pro or a con depending on what you want in a pet. If you want a pet that is going to be happy to see you when you get home- you may be a little disappointed if you get a cat. Cats can also climb on your sofa and countertops and scratch up your furniture. However, cats are intelligent, they like to play games, and they can help keep your place rodent free.

When it comes down to it, you have to evaluate the pet that would be best for you. After all, you could do your research and find out that neither a dog or a cat will suit your needs- maybe you’d be better suited to have a fish, snake, or rabbit for a pet.

“Crate training” means that you are getting your dog accustomed to being in a crate, or cage. Many people can’t ever imagine crate training their dog. They believe it’s cruel to get a cage for their dog. However, crate training is widely considered by dog experts as not cruel at all; rather, it is a modern necessity for owning a dog.

Think of it this way. In the wild, a dog’s natural home is a den. Your crate is a dog’s modern version of a “den.” Rather than thinking of a crate as a cage that keeps your dog from freedom, a crate should be thought of as a den, a personal space that your dog calls his own. You’ll find that your dog enjoys spending time in his crate. If dogs have been properly crate trained, they’ll go into their crate often to sleep, relax, or just get some down time. This “down time” is especially important if you have kids.

Crate training is not for the faint of heart, however. You must withstand your puppy’s crying. Puppies cry in their crates because they are used to sleeping in a litter with their brothers and sisters. They like to snuggle up and a crate seems lonely, scary, and isolated from a puppy’s new family. For the first few nights, you may want to sleep next to the crate, so that when your puppy cries you can put your hand in and soothe him, letting him know that he is not alone.

Crate training during the day is difficult, too. Even if you plan on letting your dog roam the house freely during the day, there will be times when you need to crate your dog. Maybe you spilled a chemical or chocolate pudding and you need to clean it up. Maybe you have a guest coming over who’s afraid of dogs. Maybe the painters are coming and they have a strict policy on uncrated dogs. Crating is a part of modern dog ownership.

Socializing is a critically important step in the dog-raising process. While the process itself is pretty easy, it tends to be one of the most difficult things for people to do for their dogs. Making the effort now will ensure that you won’t have an aggressive dog in the future. Your dog may be aggressive towards people, visitors, children, or other dogs if you do not socialize your dog.

Part One: People

Take your puppy everywhere you can. Take him to a local park and invite children and adults to play with him (chances are, you won’t have to ask—people LOVE puppies and will probably be asking you if they can play with him). This is also helpful in your jumping-up training, if you ask people to not touch your puppy until he is sitting or lying down. Have him meet everyone you can: young children, babies (gently and supervised, of course), older children, teens, adults, the elderly, etc. Keep these interactions as positive as possible and have everyone give your puppy treats and affection. If someone is treating your puppy aggressively or negatively, gently remove your puppy from the situation immediately. The key here is gently. You don’t need to grab your puppy roughly or harshly, just scoop him up and walk away.

Part Two: Dogs

Dog interactions are tricky because dog introductions require structure, and not all dog owners are prepared for that. Try to gauge the dogs you know. Which ones are friendly and non-aggressive? Which ones are well-behaved? Which dogs will give your puppy positive experiences? Find these dogs and invite them over, so your dog gets used to having other dogs in his space. Go over to non-aggressive dogs’ houses.

Part Three: Visitors

You need to invite people over so your dog gets used to having visitors on his home turf. The more people come over, the more your dog will be okay with outsiders in his normal space. Some dogs aren’t aggressive at all unless someone is in “their” space.

Texas Hold ‘Em poker is one of the most popular types of poker, primarily because the rules are easy to learn and implement, and the game is fun and fast-paced. Why is poker becoming so popular on a nationwide basis all of a sudden?

Not only is poker fun to play, but it is also fun to watch. Games like the World Series of Poker, or WSOP, are gaining popularity on television. New gambling means online casinos are making playing the game a lot more accessible than it ever was. People are becoming increasingly more passionate about the subject of playing poker. Manufacturers are beginning to create a wide variety of products you can buy and utilize at home when you are interested in participating in a poker game at home. The poker craze is growing and evolving quickly, and as the result, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and related locations have experienced an increase in revenue, as have the manufacturers of poker tables, custom poker chips, cards, and other elements necessary for the enjoyment of the game.

If you are passionate about Texas Hold ‘Em poker, it would be wise for you to consider collecting the best merchandise so that you can play a high quality game at home. The right cards, the right chips, the right tables and the right chairs are all going to contribute positively toward your poker playing experience. Now you and your friends or colleagues can enjoy the game of poker anywhere you want, without having to travel to Las Vegas or having to gamble online in order to get your poker fix.

When many people first get a dog, they focus on the basics. House training. Sit. Stay. Don’t eat shoes. Don’t go through the garbage. These are all incredibly important lessons to teach a new puppy, but don’t forget another very important lesson: socializing.

What is Socializing?

Socializing is the process by which you introduce your dog to the concept of other people and other dogs. We often don’t think about socializing because we as humans do it naturally: our babies and toddlers often go out into the world in shopping malls, grocery stores, or daycare centers. No one is afraid of a baby and adults often come up to our children and talk to them, smile at them, make silly faces in the checkout line, etc. However, dogs generally stay in one area. They may have a fenced yard where they exercise or go to the bathroom. They stay in your house. Even if you take your dog on frequent walks (and you should), you probably don’t stop to greet people or introduce your dog to them. Having a puppy generally makes this easier since almost no one is afraid of new puppies, and children (or adults) often ask to pet the new puppy. Your dog also needs socializing with other dogs to curb aggression problems later in life. This can be tougher than socializing with humans, because many other dogs suffer from the same problems you’re trying to curb now. Other dogs don’t “play nice,” and you may be afraid they’ll cause an injury to your tiny puppy.

What Happens if I Don’t Socialize my Puppy?

You’ll experience greater problems when your dog reaches adulthood. They may not like children (or not know what to do with children). This is incredibly difficult on young couples who may want to start a family one day. If your dog isn’t socialized to other dogs, your dog may experience severe aggression later in life, which may prevent you from taking your dog outside the house (and furthering the problem). You may also be unable to get an additional dog.

Labrador Retrievers make ideal family dogs. They’re loving, non-aggressive, amiable, and playful dogs that get along great with children. While Labrador Retrievers are a pretty genial breed overall, there are some factors you need to consider before adopting a Labrador Retriever.

1.) Size.
Labradors are large. While they’re nowhere near as big as say, a mastiff or a Great Dane, they’re still large, solidly built dogs with a lot of muscle. They have a strong tendency to jump up on people (though like any breed, you can train to correct this) and will knock an adult over if the adult isn’t watching carefully. When you take your Labrador Retriever for a walk, you may find that your Lab is walking you instead of the other way around. If you’re looking for a small dog or even a medium-sized dog, Labs aren’t for you.

2.) Swimming.
Labs are born swimmers and you may have to wrestle them away from a lake, pond, ocean, or swimming pool. While they make great swimming companions, you will have to watch them carefully around water, lest you end up driving home with an unexpected wet dog.

3.) Intelligence.
Labs aren’t dumb, but they definitely aren’t the smartest dog breed around. You may have to spend more time training them then you would a smarter dog. You may also find that they “forget” what they’ve learned more often than other dog breeds. On the other hand, Labrador Retrievers require less mental stimulation than more intelligent dog breeds.

4.) Excitability.
As they age, Labradors become much more relaxed. However, a young Labrador is a bundle of joy whenever anyone walks through the door. Expect running, jumping, and general wiggling whenever you come home (and more when a new person visits).

5.) Friendliness.
Labrador Retrievers are an extremely lovable and affectionate breed that gets along well with both people and other dogs. However, if you’re looking for a guard dog, you’ll probably find that your Labrador would rather lick an intruder than scare it away.

A pet is supposed to be a best friend, but they are rarely treated as such when an owner is suffering from an addiction. When we ponder the depth and reach of addiction, we commonly don’t stop to think about the silent parties that are affected the most by the actions of an addict. In many cases, it is the pet that suffers when living with an addict. If there were a way to communicate with these pets, it could be known just how much neglect, abuse, and mistreatment they truly suffer.

Often, the abuse of a pet is not considered when comes to an addict, only the people the addict harms are thought of. However, each year a significant amount of pets are abandoned or even neglected to the point of death due to the improper care they receive at the hands of an addict. For example, there are many pet owners who are diligent when it comes to feeding and taking care of their pet, but when the addiction takes hold, so does neglect and all care comes to a halt. Pet owners who are addicts also go on binges and leave the pet on their own for days at a time. Subsequently, pets become underweight and malnourished. Pets also suffer by being exposed to unsanitary environments.

If you know someone who is affecting their pet in a negative way because of their addiction, then it is your duty to confront them and try to offer assistance. Getting them to treatment program through the use of a website like Rehab-International.org can help you to find the very best care facility possible. You can also find many places that care for pets as well as the owners and help to start integrating pet care into the treatment immediately. Help is a must, especially when a pet is involved.

German Shepherd Dogs, as they are officially known, are a breed known for their intense loyalty, intelligence, and protective nature. The German Shepherd Dog breed is often considered to be the second-best breed in every canine skill, meaning that they are a true jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. It’s difficult to find something the German Shepherd Dog isn’t good at. While on paper, these dogs may sound amazing, German Shepherds aren’t for everyone. Do research and soul-searching to find out if these dogs are right for you. Here are some factors that you’ll need to consider before adopting a German Shepherd Dog.

1.) Size.
If you want a lap dog, or even a medium-sized dog, the German Shepherd Dog is not right for you. German Shepherds are a large breed and rarely weigh under seventy pounds.

2.) Mental and physical stimulation.
German Shepherds are amazingly intelligent. This means that while they learn tricks easily, they also require a lot of mental stimulation. Just like bright children often get into trouble at school because they’re bored or not mentally challenged enough, the German Shepherd Dog needs to be mentally challenged. It’s a working dog that needs a “job,” and whether that job is chasing tennis balls, catching Frisbees, scent tracking, patrolling the neighborhood, or agility trials, the German Shepherd Dog will take its job very seriously. Additionally, the German Shepherd Dog breed needs plenty of physical exercise. Most of the breed’s behavioral problems stem from not enough mental or physical exercise.

3.) Shedding.
The German Shepherd Dog breed has both short-haired and long-haired coat varieties. Keep in mind that if you choose a long-haired dog, shedding will be a huge issue. Long-haired dogs require a lot of upkeep and cleaning.

4.) Expressive.
Your German Shepherd Dog will tell you when he has to go out, when he’s hungry, when he’s thirsty, etc. German Shepherds are huge “talkers,” and they often convey want they want through barking or whining.

5.) Prey drive.
Your German Shepherd will have the internal instinct to hunt rabbits, squirrels, small dogs, and cats.

Halloween is a fun season because everybody gets to dress up as something else and play pretend for a day. When you have a family, especially with children, Halloween becomes even more important because of trick-or-treating. You should keep in mind that if you have a pet, one of the options available to you is to have that pet go trick-or-treating with you by wearing a pet costume.

Pet costumes come in many different shapes, sizes, and styles. You can find costumes to suit the smallest kittens or the largest dogs, depending on what type of pet you have. If you are taking your dog trick-or-treating, make sure you choose a fun and easily recognizable costume like a cowboy or a pirate. Your children are sure to love being able to have their dog along with them on their trick-or-treating excursion.

One of the most important things to consider is that your pet should be people-friendly. You should also ensure that your pet is kept away from any candy. Many types of candy can be dangerous to dogs, so do not feed your dog any candy from trick-or-treating, no matter how much he begs.

With so many pet costumes available these days, you can dress your dog up as pretty much anything. Try coordinating your dog’s costume with yours or your children’s costumes, for example. If you are a pirate, dress your dog up like a parrot. If you are a cowboy, dress him up like a cow or a horse. If your children are dressed as princesses, your dog can be an accompanying character from one of their favorite princess stories. The options are endless when it comes to including your pet in your Halloween celebrations, so make sure to plan ahead and let your pet be a part of your family’s Halloween traditions.

You think you know all there is to know about training dogs, right? Maybe you had dogs growing up. Maybe you figure if you’ve raised three kids, you can definitely train a dog. Maybe you just think that it can’t be that hard to get an animal to sit when you tell it to. Maybe you’re right. Here are some things to think about before you make that call.

Obedience class will help socialize your dog.
If you were thinking that training your dog to sit can’t be that hard, you’re onto something: it really isn’t that hard. Even if your dog is an exceptionally slow learner, the internet and dog training books can help you figure out the best way to train your dog. However, your dog will never become socialized if it’s just you and your dog (literally) sitting at home every day. Obedience classes are a socially acceptable way to get your dogs socialized to other people and dogs. What is socialization? Socialization is the process by which your dog learns to be around people and other dogs. Think about it: if your baby had never, ever seen other humans besides your immediate family, wouldn’t your baby be afraid of other people? At the very least, wouldn’t it make childcare a nightmare? Obedience classes often stress the importance of meeting other dogs (and the correct way to meet other dogs). The controlled environment is a safe and structured way of socializing, especially compared to taking your new puppy up to strange dogs in the park.

Obedience classes will show you different ways to train your dog.
Treats, clickers, hand signals, and other forms of motivation and training will all be presented to you in hopes of finding the best training method for your dog. Just like people, no two dogs are alike. Think of people: each student has a different learning style, right? Just like how a person may be a visual learner or a hands on learner, a dog can be food-motivated, play-motivated, praise-motivated, etc.

Your pet is as much a part of your family as your kids are. They are there for you when you’re sad or sick, and help you feel better. So when they get sick, it’s your turn to be there for them. But what happens when their illness is severe enough to need expensive care and treatment from the vet? How do you pay for your furry companion’s medical bills when you are barely making ends meet?

The first thing you’ll want to do when faced with this situation is talk to your vet. If you have a long-term relationship with the vet’s office, you may be able to work out some kind of payment arrangement to pay for your pet’s treatments. Some vet offices will do this for you, especially if you’ve been going to them for several years. You could set up a payment plan that calls for you to pay a monthly amount towards your bill, until your account is paid off.

If your vet’s office is unable or unwilling to set up payments with you, there are other places you can get the money you need to take care of your pet’s illness. You could try to borrow the money from family or a friend. They may be able to loan you the money with a guarantee that you’ll pay them back over time, as much as you would have paid the vet’s office back.

Another idea is a cash advance business, such as PayDayOne.com. They can set up a loan with you based on your income, and allow you to set payments up to repay your loan based on your needs. You can either pay the loan back in one lump sum when you receive your paycheck, or refinance the loan up to four times, and just pay the interest and fees due on it.

You can find a way to take care of your pet’s medical needs.

The wild dog, or the Dingo, is considered one of the last living and known species of wild dog that freely roams. They are very aggressive, yet look like a shaggy version of your family pet. The Dingo could also resemble a hyena, and since they are distant cousins, that would make sense. Wolves are also of the canine family, but dogs are a much smaller and a much more domesticated version. However, the Dingo could almost be regarded as feral dogs, in that they look like they could be domesticated, but they are far from it. There are cases every year in Australia, their native home, where a Dingo has taken small child, and he or she was never seen again. The spread of Dingos is relatively steady, and the actual infestation tends to be a normal number every year. The population growth of the Dingo is not like that of some other species that are growing insatiably.

The Dingo is not a protected species, and land owners in the Aussie outback are given carte blanche rights to shoot if they come onto the land. This has been especially the case since many of the Dingo packs have been making their way towards areas that have more human populations including many small towns, and even towards major cities. There have been sitings, much like a pack of coyotes, in suburban neighborhoods. The difference with Dingo’s and a coyote pack is that coyotes tend to be relatively shy, and only look for prey no bigger than a large cat. When Dingo’s are seen, residents take cover because the are very confident, and extremely aggressive. The odd fact is though, that this is truly the last of the wild dog, and seeing them reminds people of the primitive nature dogs initially had.

There are many pet illnesses that owners need to be wary about. For instance, if your dog is coughing a lot, and it is sounding very strange, chances are your pet had kennel cough. Kennel cough is a very dangerous, and highly contractible illnesses, that would be equivalent to a severe flu or croup for humans. The reason this can be so harmful to your pet, is if left untreated, can turn into pneumonia, or even doggy tuberculosis. This can be a really painful time for your pet. Many times, your pet will look lethargic, have a running nose that might be accompanied by some blood in the mucus, little or no appetite, and just look miserable. You know your pet, so when changes like this occur, you will see them right away.

The other illnesses that dogs, and even cats can get, is ring worm, heart worm, and even tape worm. This is common in animals to have some type of worm illness because they are not as sanitary as what we would like them to be. If you see white worms in your animals stool, you should get them in to the veterinarian right away. This passes from animal to animal because of their interaction with other dogs, or cats, and their laissez-faire attitude towards another animals waste. Many times, your pet tends to consume small amounts of waste from other animals, and this is the number one way they are able to contract worms. The worst type of worm that a pet can get is heart worm. Heart worm are just that, worms that attack the heart. They make their home in the valves of your dogs heart chambers and lining. If left untreated is fatal for your pet. Luckily for Fido, there are medications that get rid of these types of illnesses.

Animals are a fascinating addition to our world that we experience. While we ourselves are animals, it is unique to see such a variety of other creatures that we get to see on a daily basis. Even if an animal is wild, it is still important to make sure that we care for them. Domesticated animals are those that we live with and care for anyway, but still, many do not understand the type of care involved in making sure that the an animal is kept and is safe from harmful things like disease, or malnutrition.

With animals in the wild, it is important that we do not interfere with their natural operation. Meaning that if we see a very cute bunny getting chased down by a tiger, it is not our place to stop it. Aside from not interfering, there other considerations to make when taking on the approach to care for animals. For instance, pollution is a big ordeal for many marine life animals. The plastics that many of our products come with are responsible for many animal deaths each year. It is also our responsibility to make sure that species are allowed to thrive in their natural habitat. Poachers, hunters, and non-native species are the number one reason why we are seeing extinction on the rise for certain types of animals. There are many organizations that are working very hard to prevent extinction rates from climbing, but it truly does come down to the individual making a difference.

When it comes to our domesticated animals, it is best to provide a loving and conducive home. Dog Fighting, Cock Fighting, and the torture of other animals is a horrific and deplorable epidemic. These instances are not just happening in the United States, but globally. It is our responsibility to protect and care for the creatures that we are allowed to exist with each and every day.

The Poodle, while a contemporary little dog by assumptions standards, has quite a long history, and comes in many shapes and sizes. This surprises many, as it is assumed that they are the cute little fluff ball at your neighbors house. The truth is quite the opposite with these dogs. In fact, they were very hard working dogs in the last 1700′s, and were brought to the United States, for the mere purpose of working for sailors fetching goods, or shipmates that had fallen overboard. Poodles are known for their amazing swimming skills, and have been ranked one of the smartest breeds on the planet. They come in four different sizes, teacup, which weigh about two to three pounds, toy, which weigh five to seven pounds, mini, which weigh around 10-15 pounds, and then finally the standard, which can get up to 60 pounds. The size variations were all intended to have a purpose, as the breeders in France needed them.

During the days of rats going crazy in France, and the rest of Europe, people were desperate to get a grasp on how to handle them. Cats were helping, but there were times that the rats were bigger than the cats. People started noticing that terriers, which are renowned ratters, were doing a good job, but not getting rid of the population. Poodles, which had a modest start on cargo ships, were found to be quite dominant with the rats. The different sizes even helped to located different sizes of rats and mice, and were then able to help eliminate much of the population. This came as a great comfort for a continent that was being annihilated by the plague. It was later discovered that the heaping mounds of trash in the streets were the primary culprit. The Poodle however was regarded as a work dog after that, and then was transported to other countries to be used in labor projects.

It is vital that dogs teeth are maintained and cared for on a regular basis. In fact many ailments that a dog may suffer from comes directly from the lack of care for the teeth and gums. Also, not tending to teeth and gums can create a painful situation that can impede the ability for a dog to even eat. This means that as a dog begins to age, his ability to properly eat begins to diminish. The teeth and gums function much like a humans, in that they have their intended purpose of eating, but also act a trap for bacteria and cavity causing germs. The biggest problem with this is that mouth, because the mucus membrane layer, acts as a gateway for germs and bacteria to enter into the blood stream.

The best thing that you can do for your pet is to make sure that he receives regular cleanings, like a person would. This could either take place in a veterinarians office, or on your own. There are many products out on the market that can help with this task. Products such as chicken or beef flavored toothpaste, doggie toothbrushes that taste like chocolate, and of course the popular Dentibone that is on the market. You can find all of these products in your local pet store, or with your local vet. By being proactive about your pets dental needs, you are doing him a favor, and guaranteeing that a healthy life, is being presented to the best of your ability through proper care and provisions. This will also mean that tooth loss, pain in the gums, and problems eating will be avoided. If you pet has bright red and inflamed gums, and ring around the bottom, of their teeth, and horrible breath, it is time that you consider an intense teeth cleaning.

If you’ve ever had a pet run away, you know how anxious and worried everyone can get – especially if it’s a pet you and your family love. Some pets have natural homing abilities, but others can become disoriented if they find themselves in an unfamiliar place.

If your pet is lost, there are a few things you can do to bring your pet safely back home. The important thing is not to worry or panic – it won’t get Felix or Fido home any faster. Imagine that your cat or dog is enjoying his citywide sojourn, which is usually the case.

The first and most obvious thing to do is look. Look in the obvious places: nooks and crannies in your own home, your own yard, and your own neighborhood. Put flyers up at intersections around the block. When pets wander, they usually don’t wander far.

However, if a day goes by without any reports, bring your campaign into Phase II and go public. Announce the search using your real-life and technological social networks, such as Facebook and Craigslist. Bikes, cars and other stolen merchandise have been recovered by the use of social networks – the same goes for pets. Let your friends and their friends know your pet’s last whereabouts, supply photographs, and let the community machine go to work.

Social networks are the new ‘telephone pole flyers,’ but it never hurts to put the word on the streets as well. Put together a ‘missing’ flyer – provide a description, a number and a possible reward. If you love your pet, the amount you’d give to have it back should be immeasurable.

If Phase I and Phase II don’t work, sometimes you just have to wait and let your pet engage its natural homing abilities. Most pets find their way back, but it never hurts to enlist outside help. As the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy says – don’t panic.

Dogs are much like people in that if they do not receive exercise their health will quickly being to decline. Unfortunately for mans best friend, the digression in health occurs much more quickly, and the result is a much shorter life span than what should be expected. If you have noticed a dog that is grossly overweight, then you are looking at an animal that can expect to lose two to three years off of his life expectancy. This is a massive loss considering the short life spans that dogs already have.

Being grossly overweight for a dog usually means that they are overweight about 10-20 percent of their body weight. This might sound like a lot of weight, but imagine if you were 10-20 percent overweight. For a five pound dog, that equates to about one pound overweight. For a 100 pound human, that is 10-20 pounds. See the comparison? It is important that your dog is healthy, and has a healthy weight. The best thing that you can do for your furry friend is by running him on a regular basis. Many communities offer a dog park, or an area where you can run your pet. This is a good idea to do daily so that your pet can get some more zip in his step before it is too late.

The other thing that you can do for your pet is limit the amount of food that is readily available. This means that instead of having a bowl of food that is always full on the ground all times of day, you give your dog one scoop of food once or twice a day. This will help retrain their bodies, and help them lose the weight. Dogs are scavengers and hunters. Their instincts tell them to find food, and to eat. By leaving food on the ground, they will continue to eat because that is what nature is telling them to do.

If you are planning on breeding your dog, either as a stud, or to be used for puppies, there are some things to consider. It is imperative that if you are intentionally breeding two dogs together that it is a safe environment for both animals. It is also important to make sure both animals can handle the process. For instance, some females cannot handle too many litters of puppies, and by having too many, you can seriously harm the female, or even cause life threatening danger to her during the birthing experience. This is important to take note of with particular breeds. For instance, Greyhound females can only two or three litters in their lifetime before the question of their lifespan becomes a reality. This means that if she is over bred, she can die before producing the litter that you are expecting.

For males, you need to make sure that they are not exhibiting aggressive tendencies. This can be a sign of health issues that when coupled with the female, can present a danger to the female. It is also important to make sure both parents of puppies are papered if you plan on selling the puppies as full-bred. AKC, or the American Kennel Club, should have a papered registry of your animals, which means that you can certifiably sell the puppies as papered animals.

When separating the puppies from their mother it is best to wait until the puppies reach about eight weeks old or so. This give the puppies ample time to acclimate, nurse, and ween, and be ready for their new home. If you have puppies that you are ready to give away, and the puppies are not able to see yet, then it is too soon, and they should not be separated from their mother. Separating puppies too soon could cause life threatening issues.

Partially cooked meats for a dog seem to be the healthiest option you can give your pet. In fact, their digestive enzymes seem to be able to tolerate this type of food better than the high protein, by-product filled alternative. Dogs are carnivorous canines, and their little instincts tell them that meat is good. That is why they are willing to chase the cat, they are essentially hunting their dinner.

There are those that say chicken with the bone in is a bad idea for dogs because the bone can splinter and hurt their intestinal track. Did you know that partially cooked chicken with the bone in is actually considered healthy for your pet? That is right. The reason for this is that dogs are carnivorous and their bodies are naturally designed for raw or partially raw foods. Things that would make you sicker than, well, a dog, makes Fido one happy camper. Think about this, when you feed a dog just simple dry dog food that is processed and full of preservatives and filler, you find that you pup is a little more ripe than at other times. With half cooked meats you will not have this problem. Their bodies are simply intended to be able to handle foods handled this way. Many are thinking that cannot be serious, but if you think about it, there are tons of animals that are living on the streets that are able to survive living out of dumpsters full of raw, rotten, half-cooked foods. If we as people ate that way we would not last that long. Dogs however thrive on a low carb half raw diet. This is one of the best things, other than regular exercise, that you can do for your pet. You will notice a difference in they way they respond and feel almost right away.

There are many natural foods available to help your pet maintain a healthy diet. In fact, it has been proven that feeding your dog dry naturally cooked foods, without preservatives can help your dog live a long and healthy life. This would include foods that do not have any type of by-products such as fillers of oatmeal or flour. Dogs need high protein, and these fillers are providing weight gaining carbohydrates. Which can translate to a much shortened life span. Dogs have very particular needs, and sometimes with the more inexpensive foods, these internal needs are not being met. In fact, some of these foods can cause other issues like problems with teeth, bones, and digestive tracks. If you find your dog is a little more stinky than normal, there is a high probability that it is the food your are providing.

When considering different types of foods for your pet, look at the bag, not just the pictures. The pictures are always going to depict the perfect combination of food for your pet. What you want to look at is how much of the food is horse meat, how much is fillers. Is the food dried naturally or baked? These are important factors in considering what food is best for you furry best friend. The choice in food that you make could mean years of enjoyment with your pet, or years of costly veterinarian visits because your dog is simply not getting the proper nutrition. The largest contributor to the health issues is the weight of your pet. If you pet is too heavy for their size, it can take years off of their life. Have a food with too many filler can help your pet gain unnecessary weight. It is better to spend a little more on a natural food that contains real beef, chicken, or pork, and real vegetables.

There a many different types of breeds of dogs. In fact there are more than 300 documented breeds that are AKC or equivalent recognized globally. This means that there are plenty of opportunities present to have flaws in the breeding. The main cause for this is the fact that so many breeds are simply mixes of other breeds, that it is only a matter of time before a trait that is undesirable rears its ugly head. Some of the largest flaws that are exhibited in dogs is in the form of poor breathing. This is especially true for Pugs, Bulldogs, Shar-Pei, and just about another dog that has the appearance of a pushed in nose. The main symptom that a dog has difficulty breathing is when they snore when they are sleeping, are heavy breathers when resting, they pant when it is not hot, and they are loud eaters. These signs are indicative that the dog is having work very hard to get air in their lungs.

Another big flaw that is seen with pure bred animals is in the skeletal construction. Take for instance a German Sheppard. These dogs tend to have bad hips, or have full hip displasia. This means that the actual socket for the hip joint is not functioning properly. This can create a slow runner, or cause massive hip pain that can begin as early as puppy-hood. Dachshunds, or wiener-dog, for example also have a flaw under pure bred standards. Their spine is very weak due to its exaggerated length, and with any given pressure they can be paralyzed for the lower half of their bodies. There are specialty carts for these dogs specifically, because the occurrence of paralysis is so common. Breeders have tried to find traits to combine to help create a somewhat shorter spine, but have found that the dog is a completely different looking animal altogether.

When animals are orphaned, they extra care and attention so that their needs are met regarding feeding, an their health. It is important to have their mother stay with them as long as possible, or until they have weened, but when that is not possible, it us incumbent upon people to intervene. There are many resources for you if you find yourself in this situation, and many animal protection agencies that can offer advice and tips. If you have an animal that is orphaned, and it requiring your intervention to survive, the first step is to take the animal to the veterinarian. This way you can get a full check up, and the Doctor can tell you if there are any additional things to consider before you take on this newest task.

After you have had a full work-up on the animal that you have chosen to care for, there are some other things to get so that you are prepared. For instance, the animal will probably have to be bottle fed. This means getting a bottle that is appropriate for the small orphan, and you will also need to have the proper formula or feed for your orphan. In some cases, dependent on the species or breed, some veterinarians will even recommend seeking an adoptive parent that can handle nursing and care, especially if the type of animal needs to be taught instinctive skills like hunting, or mating.

If the animal that you come across is a canine or a domesticated house cat, these types of animals can be easily cared for by use of a bottle, some loving care, and a lot of time and patience. It is only when you are working with animals that need other animals to care for them that you need to be very cautious. For instance, birds tend to ostrisize their young when they have the scent of a human on them from interaction.

When choosing a pet, many owners want to make sure that the one they choose is a healthy reproduction of the parents. When purchasing an animal from a breeder, many people want to see the parents of the pup, calf, or kitten that they are considering purchasing. Depending on the reason for the purchase, as they may intend to breed the animal themselves, most just want to get an idea of temperament so that they can see what to expect when the animal they are looking at is fully mature.

This aspect of looking at the breeding is especially important because if there is a flaw in the breeding, it could mean that the animal will have health issues, personality issues like aggression, or not be eligible for being papered with the qualifying organization. The best example for this is with dogs. AKC is the qualifying organization that verifies blood lines in dogs, in order to verify the purity of their bloodline. If a dog has flaws in their breeding, and they are physically obvious, AKC will not paper those animals, as they can certify that the animal could pass down a clean reproduction.

Breeding flaws are exhibited in many different ways. Some of them include the fur, breathing, feet, hips, and personality. If the fur is splotchy, or has color patterns that should not be present, for instance, white on the paws when the pure bred certification claims all black. Breathing is a big part of the breeding. This is because many breeds develop cleft palate, which is when the sinus cavity is open to the mouth, and the animal has a difficult time eating and breathing. The other issue with breathing is a sinus cavity that is too closed. If you are interested in a certain animal, and the breeder is claiming it is pure bred, ask to see the papers on the parents. This will confirm things if you are unsure.

Pet nutritionists definitely agree that cats need to receive a wide variety of different foods including both dry foods and canned foods, and there are several reasons that make this true. Many people wonder if they should be feeding primarily wet food, primarily dry food or both. Here are some facts that you should consider.

* Dry foods are convenient and are capable of being left out all the time, allowing the cat or cats to "free feed."

* Canned foods contain water, which is beneficial for cats that are not getting enough water on their own.

* You will want to make sure that you are balancing wet food and dry food so that your cat is getting all the right types of nutrients.

* Your cats can easily become bored when you feed them the same type of food all the time. If you change up the food that you are giving them, it will keep them entertained and ensure that they will not become bored.

* If your cat is allergic to any of the ingredients in his or her food, you can head the allergic reaction off more quickly by changing up the food. Cats can also develop allergies with time, but if you are changing the food on the occasional basis, then you can prevent food allergies from becoming a problem, or can identify the presence of food allergies by changing the food ingredients out to determine which food is causing the reaction.

This does not mean that you are going to need to change out your cat’s food every day, but you should combine high-quality canned wet foods with dry foods to make sure that your cat is always getting a well rounded education. Well rounded nutrition is vitally important in keeping your cat healthy for a long time.

In order to make sure that your cat or dog is in the top of their health you will have to take them to the vet. Taking your cat or dog to the vet is like taking yourself to the dog. While it might at first seem as if the vet is doing very little for your cat or dog they are actually making sure that they are in the best health that they can be.

Here are some of the things that will happen during a routine vet check up.

Physical. Your vet will require that your cat or dog stand on a table and they will feel them all over. They will check their tail, head, legs, body and feel their ribs and other areas. This is to make sure that there is no swelling or tenderness that is around the cat or dog.

Mouth Check. Your vet will then look into your cat or dogs mouth. They will look at their teeth and see if there are any cracks, dirt, plague or other things wrong with their teeth.

Eye Check. The vet will take a light and shine it into your cat or dogs eyes. They will also do this to their ears and other areas to make sure that everything is checking out okay.

Weight. Your vet will weight your cat or dog and note it in the chart. They will do this every visit as weight is a big sign that there is something wrong or not wrong with your cat or dog.

Fecal Check. This is a test that can be run but is not required. Your vet will take a fecal sample and run it for various items such as ringworm and infections.

Your vet will do a very thoughrough screening of your pet. Should you have any concerns during this time make sure you voice them so the vet can check them out.

Almost every breed of dog loves to play. They will play with their owners, play with other dogs and even play with a number of toys. In fact, some dogs are known to have hundreds of different types of toys in their collect. So how does an owner of a new dog know which types of dog toys are right for their dog. Here is a look at some of the popular dog toys on the market today.

Rubber Tire. A small tiny rubber tire is a perfect toy for your dog. This toy can be used for your dog to chew, swing around in their mouth and jump on. The best part is that it is really durable so it will last for a long time without having to be replaced.

Plush Toys. A plush toy is a great choice for your dog as it allows them something to play with. The best part of plush toys is that many of them are created with tiny little squeakers in them that make cute noises and your pet will love it.

Fleece Toys. Your dog loves to cuddle with toys just as much as you do. A fleece toy is a cuddly, soft toy that any dog will love to snuggle up with and curl around. These toys are easy to find and available at almost every store in the area.

Rubber Ring Chains. Some of the dog toy makers are making toys that have rubber ring chains. These chains can be used by the dog so that they can chew on them or even pull at them really hard. The indestructible nature of the chain makes them really popular amongst pet owners.

There are hundreds of toys out there. What one dog does not like another will love. It’s all just a bit of trial and error.

Pet care can be very high maintenance and therefore should not be taken lightly. Taking care of a pet is similar to taking care of a child. You need to provide food and water, you need to let the animal go to the bathroom, you need to take it out for exercise and most importantly you need to give them love, attention and affection in large amounts. These are essential pet care routines that need to be done. Here is a look at some other pet care options.

Food is an essential part of pet care. The type of food you provide for your pet is one of the most important things you will do. There are many types of food for all different kinds of animals. So make sure that you do your research and get the right type of food. It will all depend upon what your animal needs and any pet owner should consult their local vet for more information on right types of food for their pet.

Exercise is another essential part of pet care and should be given to your pet regularly. It is important to keep your pets heart and lungs health and that is exactly what exercise provides. There is not a need for your pet to go running around like crazy throughout the house but you do need to take them for walks, give them play exercises and other types of exercise needs.

Taking care of a pet is a lot of responsibility. It is something that should be thought of before you consider taking the pet in. You are responsible for a lot of essential elements that will keep your pet alive. Many pet owners do not consider the high amount of maintenance that it takes to keep a pet and many pets end up on the streets in a short period of time because the pet owner did not think about the amount of care that they need.

Just as you are the sum of everything that you eat, this is also true for cats and dogs. Cat and dog food products are some of the most important purchases that you will make as a pet owner, aside from basic veterinary care. The proper diet can actually work to eliminate or delay a number of veterinary expenses for medical conditions that can be brought on by poor diet or nutritional deficiencies.

The basic nutritional needs for a cat are not difficult for you to have a grasp on. It is important for you to understand what your cat’s needs are so that you can meet them and raise a healthy, thriving feline companion. Some of the basic nutritional needs for your cat include:

Protein: Your cat needs a protein source such as fish, meat or poultry. So make sure to include it in their diet.

Taurine: This is an essential amino acid that your cat needs in order to be healthy.

Other Vitamins: Your cat will need other minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and enzymes for healthy eyes, skin and coat, liver function and other vital and essential functions.

Water: Water is absolutely essential as part of your cat’s diet, providing your cat with adequate hydration at all times. Your cat should always have access to clean, fresh water.

Cats do not require carbohydrates the way that people do. Carbohydrates can be found in many commercial cat foods, both canned and dry, as they act as a filler. Some examples of cat food fillers include rice, wheat and corn. Other ingredients can be found in the food as well, including flavorings, binders and colorants.

Fresh food is vitally essential, which is why there are preservatives in your cat’s food. Keeping your cat’s food fresh means you will be providing your cat with adequate nutrition all the time.

There are a number of unique benefits associated with purchasing this type of insurance that you absolutely must consider if your pet is as much a part of your family as anyone else.

Benefit #1: Most pet insurance programs are going to provide you with free or very low-cost preventative care and basic care. Many come with a free spay or neuter if you have a pet that has not yet been fixed as well. Basic checkups and wellness visits are free or almost completely covered by pet insurance plans.

Benefit #2: Most pet insurance programs are going to drastically cut the costs for medical visits if your pet becomes sick or injured. Vet bills can become very high very quickly, but the protection that a pet insurance plan provides is going to cut these costs down substantially, allowing you to get through this financial emergency without having to stress. When your pet is sick, you should be thinking about getting it well rather than stressing over your financial ability to deal with the issue.

Benefit #3: Most pet insurance programs offer discounts if you enroll multiple pets. Pay full price for the first dog or cat and the second will be covered at a discounted rate. This is reason enough to make sure that you enroll all of your pets in this vital protection.

Benefit #4: Most pet insurance programs allow you to pay for the entire annual premium all at once, so you can pay off the insurance program for the year and spend the rest of the year with some much needed peace of mind, knowing that you have health care protection for your companion animals in case they should happen to need it.

The decision to take on a new pet is a big one. It may be made on impulse, but the results can be far reaching and influence many different parts of your life. Pets can add a lot of fun, love, and companionship to your home, but they are require a good amount of responsibility. If you are planning to get a pet, you should be fully aware of what it will take to raise them well. Pets have a lot of love to offer, and they deserve a happy home in return.

If you are unsure of what type of pet you want, consider whether you’d prefer to have an indoor or outdoor pet. Outdoor pets consist primarily of dogs, though sometimes people keep other more unconventional pets like ducks or goats outside. Outdoor pets provide a companion for outdoor activities. They also tend to be somewhat self sustaining, as they don’t have to be housebroken and usually don’t require constant attention. Noise is less of an issue, although it still can be a concern.

For indoor pets, you have a few considerations. Do you want a free roaming pet or a caged animal? If caged, do you want something that stays in its cage all the time, or a pet that comes out and plays from time to time? Birds can make good caged companions, as can small rodents like gerbils, hamsters, and guinea pigs. All of them can be taken from the cage to play. Other indoor pets like inside dogs and cats roam freely around the house. They need to be housebroken so you don’t have to clean up behind them. Dogs will need to be trained to keep quiet and not go places they shouldn’t, while cats should be encouraged not to scratch things. Your level of commitment to adjusting a pet to your home will affect how well suited you are to an indoor pet.

Birds make fun and unique pets. They can be very affectionate, friendly, and fun. They can also be extremely independent if given the opportunity to be. Birds may not be as popular as more conventional pets like cats and dogs, but they have their own unique charms. Whether singing, perching, or even speaking like people do, birds make for a great pet experience that can’t be duplicated with any other animal.

If you’ve decided to add a pet bird to your family, your decision making isn’t done yet. There are a great number of differences between different types of birds. Many birds are capable of speaking, while others cannot. Some birds are more social and want or need to be let out of their cages often, while others are more at home staying in the cage. Larger birds tend to be greater responsibility, and they also ten to have much longer life spans. Some breeds of parrot have been known to live for around 100 years. Even smaller birds like parakeets can outlive dogs and cats. Consider the level of commitment you are willing to make to a pet before you buy one.

Birds will require different amounts and types of attention, depending on the type of bird you choose. Birds like canaries and finches are low maintenance pets. They don’t require much other than to be fed and watered regularly. They can just sit there and look pretty. Parrakeets like to fly around and sit on shoulders. They’re small and mild mannered enough to play with easily. Parrots, especially the larger ones, need space, exercise, and attention frequently. Many birds in the parrot family also have special dietary needs, so you need to make sure those are met as well. Birds will be harder to “housebreak” than other animals, if you can even manage, so keep that in mind as well.

It is a fact of life that your dog is going to get some type of dental disease. It is estimated that by the time a dog reaches the age of two or three they already have one or more of the common dental problems that dogs face. It is also guessed that over 95% of all dogs suffer from some type of dental problem. This means that the chances are fairly high that your dog is going to get one of these dental problem, so you might as well brush up on the type of dental problems that dogs face.

There are two general types of dental problems known to plague a dog. Here is a look at those three dental problems that dogs suffer from.

Tooth Fracture. Dogs love to eat and chew on anything. This might be fun for them but it isn’t so much fun for their teeth. The constant wear and tear on the teeth causes them to wear down and eventually break in half. If the chewing on objects does not fracture your dog’s teeth than the way that they eat will. Dogs eat in an up and down motion, their jaws chomp up and down and that causes items to slip around and could break the teeth.

Periodontitis. This is the most common type of dog dental problem that dogs face. It is caused by the combination of plague, bacteria and other items getting stuck in the teeth and gums. This combination causes a white, sticky substance to appear around the dog’s teeth. This substance starts to eat around the bottom part of the tooth and can cause major problems. When the gum of the tooth is worn away it can cause major problems like gingivitis or cavities. If these problems are not stopped in its tracks it can cause tooth loss or lose teeth in your dog.

Dental problems exist in every dog just like they do with humans. In fact, the dental problems that dogs face are the very same as humans do. They face the possibility of suffering cracked teeth, gingivitis, bad breath and a number of other human dental problems. As a pet owner it is your responsibility to make sure that your dog is getting the dental care that he or she needs to make sure that these problems do not arise. One of the responsibilities that comes with being a dog owner is the need to have to brush your dog’s teeth.

Brushing a dog’s teeth is not like brushing your own teeth. Chances are that your dog will fight you, move their head around and just not want to engage in the teeth brushing. However there are a few items that you can use to make the teethbrushing experience better for you and the dog.

Use a Finger brush. A finger brush is a small toothbrush that fits onto the owner’s finger. This allows you to brush your dog’s teeth without them realizing what you are doing. Finger brushes come in handy for dogs that are very wiggly or hard to get settled down.

Cotton Rope Bone. Even if you use a finger brush or a toothbrush there is a chance that you won’t reach every single tooth. If you give your dog a cotton rope bone they can chew on it and that can loosen some of the plague and food stuck in the back teeth.

Use Dog Toothpaste. You can’t just take your own toothpaste off the bathroom counter and use it. You need to purchase specific dog toothpaste that can be swallowed by the dog.

Remember that even if you are brushing your dog’s teeth and taking care of their dental health you need to take them into a professional every once in a while to have their dental health checked out.
